What is Life Without Love?

Mountain meadows and mountain storm

What is life without love? Work and duty, and that’s meaningful. Having fun, which passes time but is hollow. Prayer and faith – those are important and settle the spirit. But where’s the spark? Where’s the fierce movement, the ground shifting beneath your feet, the wind that picks up and you don’t know whether it brings thunder or relief. The way every raindrop gains significance because it is shared. The witnessing of the plain and extraordinary details of another human life, and being witnessed in return. The warm nights, the fights, growing together like two tall trees from one root. Always knowing that someone has your back. Caring for someone whether they are joyful, weeping or throwing up in the bathroom sink. Surrendering your ego by putting someone before yourself. Testifying without need for an oath, for your words are believed and your heart is known and trusted.

  1. Hi. 🙂 my names Marya. I used to live in San Diego and I am originally from Morocco, where I am now.
I have read your article on Muslim Matters, and your words have been a relief.
Reading you were actually from California came as a shock.
I need Muslim advice on a matter nobody has been able to help me with so far -and Allah is the only Helper.
I do believe I might well have met you for a reason.
I have looked for your email but it’s nowhere to be found.
So if you are interested in knowing my story, then please feel free to write on the email I am writing from, inchaallah I will get an email from you.

    Barakallah fik,
    Marya

    Ps : I think I am a writer, too 🙂 inchaallah!
